In November 2024 Elena was diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer typically seen in young children. Along with this devastating news came many big changes for the Vasquez family.

Elena would required 78 chemo treatments and has since also completed 4 weeks of radiation as it was decided that the cancer, located in her mouth was inoperable.

This has been a very difficult adjustment for her and her family. Elena, who is 8 years old has 2 older brothers who are 12 and 13. The kids and their parents currently live in Independence Oregon.

This has been a true disruption to their lives with all of the traveling to Doernbechers and many many overnight and sometimes week long stays away from home, pulling Amanda, Elena’s mom away from work and regular family life to care for Elena and manage all of her appointments necessary.

Johnathan, Elena’s dad has also had to take time off work to support the needs of the family. This is a battle that has proven to be very taxing emotionally and financially for The Vasquez family.
