🎗️ Hi, I’m Hunter Mills — May’s 2025 Honoree
When I was just 15 months old, I fell down a flight of stairs. At the time, it seemed like a typical childhood accident—but that fall led to a scan, and that scan uncovered something life-changing: I had a brain tumor.
Of course, I don’t remember those early days, but I’ve grown up hearing the stories—especially about my mom, Yvonne Eve Mills. She had to make incredibly hard choices for me, even standing firm when it meant going against the advice of her own church. For two years, she fought alongside me through treatments, a feeding tube, and the lasting side effects chemo had on my digestion.
There was a point when I couldn’t eat anything by mouth. But my mom wouldn’t accept that as the end of the road. She got creative—baking nutrient-packed muffins and breads to help me come off the G-tube. I’m here today because of her persistence, her love, and her belief in my strength—even before I could understand any of it myself.
Now, 22 years old and 20 years cancer-free, I’m living proof that love, faith, and a fighting spirit can carry you through anything.
